Hi all,

Short time lurker, first time poster here and I'm sad to say I don't own a canoe... yet. I've wanted a wooden canoe for a while now and I'm currently exploring my options so I'll likely spend most of my time here lurking and asking questions.

Oh yeah, I bought a kayak eight months ago and I've been loving it to death if that helps my street cred at all...

Thanks for the warm welcome, guys. I don't think I'm quite in a place where I can buy a wooden canoe just yet but I have reached the stage where I'm doing a lot of research in my spare time.

I think when I do take the plunge I want to go ahead and build one (if I can stop at one). Right now the front runner is a 16 foot white cedar and canvas job I have a set of ancient Popular Mechanics plans for but that's subject to whether or not I learn to clinch nails properly. I'll be the first to admit, this project is probably a little way off as I'm living in a basement apartment right now.

In the meantime, the plan is to keep reading and just generally wait for this kayak fad to pass.
