I'd love information on and old town 115513

Hello.

Old Town 115513 is a 17 foot CS (common sense or middle) grade Otca model canoe that was completed February-June of 1935. It has open spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seat frames, a keel and a floor rack. Original color was dark green. It was shipped to a livery in Cochecton, New York, on July 8, 1935.

There is no mention of sail rigging, so if this is the correct record for your boat, the sail rigging was an aftermarket addition.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. The sail rig was not mentioned on the build record so that was probably added after it left the factory. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Thanks Kathy.
You're right, that's not the same boat. I'm picking up the boat tomorrow and will double check the number. The first numbers are definitely 1155- but she has mahogany gunwales, sponsons, and an original bow seat with a place for the mast. I'll repost another number tomorrow.
Thanks!

Hi again,

This seems a better fit: Old Town 115543 is a 16 foot CS (middle) grade HW model canoe that was completed February-July of 1935. It has red Western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seats, a keel, sponsons, a mast seat and step and a rudder. It also has something else written above the mast seat and step, but I can't make it out. Original color was dark green. It was shipped to Portland, Maine, on July 30, 1935.

If this still doesn't fit what you are seeing, feel free to try again!
