Gerrish stem bands

greetings, are the stem bands on early Gerrish different from those available today for replacement?

From the image, it doesn't appear they are materially different from modern-readily-available stem bands. Perhaps the newer ones are a little more concave on the back to accept bedding compound...

I've read somewhere that when tacks get halos like that, it can be a result of exposure to salt water?

Gerrish canoes are so cool - even the "lashings" are intact...
