Birchbark replica

I thought you may be interested in seeing our latest project. It started out as an 18’ Old Town Guide built in the ‘20s. It was covered with fiberglass and the stems were badly rotten. We almost put it on the burn pile. After removing the ‘glass, a thick layer of dirt and varnish we discovered that the ribs and planking was in remarkably good shape! The reason for the modifications to make it appear as a birchbark was for a video segment for our latest film we’re working on. The canoe is a wonderful addition to our fleet.

Very nice job. Looks like one of the more authentic replica jobs I've seen. How did you simulate the bark...hand painted?
