Almost done with the Charles River. My first WC canoe and restoration.

Finally after several months of work in a dark cold and damp barn in New Hampshire with no light and raining bat guano, I managed to get my 1914 Old Town Charles River canoe back into serviceable shape. Made a ton of mistakes over the process, but concidering that I had no boatbuilding, carpentry, painting, canoe restoration experience I am very happy with the results. I learned a ton in the project, wish I had the room, and money to do more, but happy to see this one survive to float again.

This site and Jerry at Island Falls were very helpful, as was the Chestnut canoe book that was recommended.

Just have a few more coats of varnish, the decal and need to find some inexpensive painters rings then it will be done. Planning on paddling down the same river it was launched in 1915 in West Swansea, NH as a maiden voyage.

Got my painter rings from two sources. Jamestown Dist. has brass eye straps (not cheap) . Ace hardware has brass rings. Less than half of cost for "set".
