Michigan Canoe Nut
Guys, can you post photos of pinstripe styles, how they are ended(arrow heads, etc) canoe name artwork and font syles, etc. It would be cool to have a vast display of different ideas.

This design is on an unrestored Belle Isle Morris. I love the way the acanthus leaves are worked on the lower part of the boat, beneath the rub rail. This may help folks figure out how to place a design beneath a rub rail.

Pinstriping etc.

Good suggestion Chris. How about a new subject heading for paint jobs and decoration.

Here are some more. Not so traditional.

Chris;
I took a slew of pictures over the years of artwork, etc. on canoes at various assemblies. Some of them are on a CD Benson made for the assembly last year. Try to get one from him. I will dig through my pics and slides to see how many more I can locate and bring them to the spring paddle on the Muskegeon in early June. Will that work for you?

Cant make the paddle, its my 25th wedding anniversary, and canoeing isnt her bag! I thought it would be neat if a bunch of folks posted here so we could collectively see different artwork and ideas.

Some of my favorites from old canoe postcards and catalogs on the CDs are attached below. The Old Town Design information is available from http://www.wcha.org/content/old-town-canoe-company-color-design-poster and http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/designs/thumbnal.html are other good resources for this. The Old Town catalog covers at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/covers/thumbnal.html and other catalog information at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/ also have some interesting images.

Morris

Here is a fancy Morris design. Someone slathered red paint over it, but it shows through. I think the colors were originally a slate blue body (or dark green), and yellow points.

Here's mine

My red 1935 Old Town Otca and recently completed Crandell. It's interesting, the Crandell pictured by Robert Ross in post #11 above has a name plate and no painter ring, mine has painter rings and no name plate.

1907 Charles River

This was my first attempt at Gold Leaf and I was amazed how easy it was and how inexpensive. I bought 25 sheets of 5" by 5" leaf for under $7.00 and the adhesive and sealer for another 6. You simply dray your lines, paint the glue where you want the gold to stick, and apply. Brush off the excess with a dry brush and you are done. I attached a photo.
