The information here: https://www.boatsafe.com/hull-id-numbers/ indicates it was built in January of 1983. The build sheet may or may not exist in the files here... someone who knows better than I should be along with that information, if it exists.

Welcome and congratulations, I suspect you have some extra digits between the XTC and the M83F since there are only supposed to be five digits in that location. My guess is that you have the Old Town canoe with serial number 247948 and hull identification number XTC47948M83F. This is a 17 foot long Chipewyan Tripper model that weighed 85 pounds. It was built between January and April, 1983. The original exterior color was yellow. It shipped on April 11th, 1983 to Kittery, Maine. The back side of the record indicates that there were some small soft spots inside and bumps/small skin break in the end so it was sold as a factory second. Scans showing both sides this build record can be found below.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join, or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. I had a previous request for a copy of this build record a few weeks ago. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Have fun with it,

    Benson
