Front seat parts...

The front seat was missing, here are the carved cross members. Hardened stainless 3/16" rod will go between them.

Great progress and beautiful work, Chris. Perfect detail like one of your models. What is the seat weaving pattern? Any strand crossing at angles or just 90 degree wrap two directions? I thought you were going to take your time on the Gerrish.

Chris, That is interesting that the later years Gerrish had four rods per seat. The older ones only had two, one at each end!

I will, just wanted to get structural stuff done, then it's to the models! I can't keep my hands off the real stuff! No diagonals, just 2 per hole then solid weaving around the rods.

Chris,

Was the seat Chestnut and did you find any if it is? The steel rods for the seat are interesting just like many Gerrish traits. Out of the 5 I have only one has the steel rods for the seat. All others are wood.

Dave that is interesting of yours where it only has one!

Both of the Gerrish canoes that I have owned only had one rod per side.
It is very interesting how many variations we find in details of these canoes!
