Found the numbers!

Michael Leone

You call that a sail?
On the advice of Benson Gray I brushed a little stripper
on the stem and rubed it off with a rag and there they are.

A request like this will usually get a faster response if you post it at http://forums.wcha.org/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=3 in the Serial Number forum. The Old Town canoe with serial number 126926 is a 17 foot long, AA grade, Otca model with open mahogany gunwales, mahogany decks, mahogany trim, a keel, outside stems, a floor rack and rub rails. It was built between March, 1939 and March, 1940. The original exterior paint color was similar to the image shown at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/designs/design45.gif which was known as design number 45. It was shipped on April 19th, 1940 to Paterson, New Jersey. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan was created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson
