First Canoe Completed: 16' Wabnaki.

Curious about Wooden Canoes
This is my first canoe build, a 16 foot "Wabnaki" designed by Gil Gilpatrick. The seats, decks, yoke, and gunwhales are sapele. Used 6 oz. S glass inside and out (1 full layer plus a reinforcement over the football inside and out). Great learning experience and a lot of fun! Can't wait to paddle it! (The last 2 photos were taken before applying varnish to the hull).

Nice work Al !

I have looked at Gils Wabnaki plans. I hope you can give us a report on how it paddles !

Your decks came out great !
Thanks for sharing !

Jim

Thanks, Jim! I will follow up with a report, but as a novice paddler you will have to take anything I say about its paddling characteristics with a grain of salt!

Looks great from here. And those small flaws? They just mean you don't have to worry about the first ding that it'll get...
