A little Christmas Cheer for everyone

I thought I might share with you some photos of a delightful and superbly detailed 44" model of a birch bark canoe made by Cesar Newashish, of Manouane, Quebec, in 1972 (signed and dated). This lovely piece has recently changed hands, privately, and in the not-too-distant future can be expected to be on display as part of a larger exhibit at the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto, which also happens to have a wonderful full-size canoe by the same maker. Many bark canoe lovers will recall the documentary film "Cesar's Bark Canoe", where he goes off into the woods equipped with an axe, and emerges with a fully-built bark canoe. This model is one of the finest of its kind that I can ever recall seeing. Make a note. Keep in mind a future visit to the ROM, and treat yourself to a wonderful time as well as supporting a fine institution.

Hi Roger
A Lovely piece of work.
The bowl to the right in the second picture looks like the Arc of the Covenant that I saw in a documentary a while back...
Merry Christmas
Alick
