Curious about Wooden Canoes
I am restoring a 1912 16' Old Town CS grade HW with closed gunwales. The old pictures of the canoe show two thwarts, one behind the bow seat the other ahead of the stern seat. There were no inwales with the canoe when I recieved it so I have no idea where the thwarts go or their length. I do have the seats so I should be able to figure out where they go. Any help with the location and dimentions of the thwarts would be much appreciated.

I have a 1907 Charles River model that is 16 feet long as shown and described at http://forums.wcha.org/showpost.php?p=19415&postcount=3 which should have the same locations as yours. The thwarts are located between the seventh and eighth ribs counting out from the middle rib (number zero). The stern end of the bow seat support is located between the nineth and tenth ribs. The bow end of the stern seat support is located between the fourteenth and fifteenth ribs. Let me know if this is not clear or you need additional details.
