Hello! Thank you in advance for anyone who can assist me. I have acquired an Old Town 18 foot canoe with the serial number 102793 - 18 and would love to know the story. I have heard it could be from 1929 and was for someone in NJ.

Thanks again!

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town with serial number 102793 is an 18 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, HW (heavy water) model with red western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, birch decks, a keel, a floor rack, and sponsons. It was built between September, 1929 and March, 1930. The original exterior paint color was bright red. It shipped on April 8th, 1930 to Paterson, New Jersey.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Thank you so very much for such a fast response! In case anyone was wondering, it is in ok shape, no canvas on it, but kept inside all these years.

Thanks again!
