15 Foot American Trader's Huron Canoe

My wife and I have been wanting a canoe for some time but a new cedar canoe had always been out of our budget until I stumbled upon this one for sale when searching the local classified ads. For $125 we are now the proud owners of this American Trader's 15'8" Huron Canoe. The first image shows the 'weathered' condition when purchased. The other images is of our sanding project so far. The canoe has now been completed and I hope to add additional images of her maiden voyage soon.

The Huron, with it’s wide beam and reinforced bottom, is a great recreational canoe for family paddling, hunting with dogs, fishing, or literally any activity on water. The Huron is also popular for day-tripping or weekend camping.

Nice boat. I have one that looks a lot like yours however mine lacks the yoke and canvas. I hope to ad canvas, filler and paint this summer. I would like to know your thoughts on how it handles in the water when you get it out there.

Nice work (lots of elbow grease, I bet) -- and a nice-looking boat. Looking forward to seeing pictures on the water.

Thanks Gentlemen for the nice comments. Here's an update on the project. Still a little ways to go but water ready.
