Seliga Canoe

Yup, Sommers still sends them out, as does several other youth camps in the region.
Just a camp out in the woods.

Just finished installing the outwales before heading out for our first on the water event of the year.

It will be the first chance to get my Mermaid back on the water after I finished re-restoring it back in May.

It has been a while since I posted in this thread. I planned to go canoeing and take some photos of the finished Seliga canoe when the owner picked it up but it didn’t work out. Consequently I didn’t end up with any photos of the finished canoe. I had mentioned to the owner to let me know if he ever decided to sell it and as it turned out a year later he sold it to me for just a wee bit more than he had payed me to restore it. Yesterday was the first chance I had to take it out. We had a family get together at our local state park and my regular canoeing spot and both kids and respective grandchildren came. It is a nice size for taking the family out in.

Nice to see another Seliga back on the water.
And no cain, interesting, I've never seen a Seliga with webbing.

I went back and read the other string, and my comments, I'm guessing that those are replaced frames, even the very earliest Seliga's have cain when they have seats from Joe. There were some that he didn't supply seats and Widji often replaced the cain with slats. My '58 had holes and hand woven cain.
