Curious about Wooden Canoes
Hello,

A few weeks ago I commissioned the building of a pair of 13' 6" Wee Lassie 2 canoes by Rick Crook of Oyster Bay Boats. I will post pictures that I have so far and more as the boat progresses further.

Rick uses fishing line to clamp the strips. If you have any construction questions, post them here and I will forward them to Rick.

Looks great !
Building two at a time really saves time ! You machine your strips all at one time, and while your waiting for epoxy to cure on one, you can work on the other. And I believe you get better results.

Thanks for the photos. Beautiful results. Is the fish line left in place as the planking is laid up? Is it snipped off flush at the seams? Thanks.

Thanks for the kind words.

From Rick:

"The fishing line is left in place until the whole boat is stripped, and then all of them are cut at the sheer and pulled out before sanding."

Four new images.

From Rick:

"I made and glued the gunwhales on your canoe today, and the second
one has been sanded and I've applied the seal coat to the inside. It will
get glass in the inside next, and then it's gunwhales, and yours will be
ready for bulkheads and decks fore and aft."

Thanks, Jim.

I am the buyer - not the builder (Rick Crook is the builder). They say you can never have too many clamps...
