I have traded a few messages with the seller but it is too far for me to go get. This is probably the Old Town canoe with serial number 78044. It is a 17 foot, AA grade, Charles River model with red Western Cedar planking, open mahogany gunwales, 20 inch mahogany decks, and mahogany trim. It was built in 1923. The original exterior paint color pattern was the same as the 1922 catalog cover shown at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/covers/large-22.gif on the web. This design was later known as design number one as shown at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/designs/design01.gif in more detail. It shipped on June 3rd, 1923 to LaSalle, New York. A scan of this build record is attached below.
These scans were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as everyone here probably knows well by now. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details.
It is also possible that this could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe.

Have just placed a bid on this CR canoe....I dislike stripping paint but thats the price you pay to get another collectable...When and if it ever happens, I am leaning strongly to duplicating the original color design. We shall see...Even selling one of my antique snowmobiles this sunday to finance this project:

Learned a lesson on bidding on Ebay!..........Dont go to town at the closing time of bidding!...........two others jumped in and one got the winning bid in the last 3 minutes of bidding time...Oh well.......Wasnt meant to be and I now have $$$ to LOOK at some others instead of buying blind
