Hi,
I am doing a repair assessment for an 18' boat with the above serial number. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks, Andrew

The Old Town canoe with serial number 36366 is shown as 18 feet long, AA (top) grade, HW (heavy water) model with western red cedar planking, mahogany gunwales, decks, seats, and thwarts, fitted with a keel and equipped with a floor rack. The canoe was built between January and July 1915. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It was shipped to St. Albans, Vermont July 31, 1915. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link behind the thumbnail image attached below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe.

Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Greg

Thank you. This boat was also outfitted with a brass mast step that is integrated into the forward end of the bow seat. Any idea of where to find out more about this rig?

Sailing equipment, sometimes fitted to a canoe at the OT factory, was often installed by the canoe dealer (and so would not be reflected on the build record), or was installed by the canoe owner, sometimes using OT gear, sometimes using gear of other manufacture, and sometimes making the gear themselves.
