Recently purchased #146561 16ft Old Townn canoe. Looking at available data would guess boat was made late 1946 early 1947. Purcahased canoe at Dragonflies Antiques in Wolfboro, NH. Canoe appears to be in original canvas which is in very good shape. A fair amount of pant "crazing" and some tearing/rotted canvas at the stern and some at midships. Have brought the canoe to Reading, Pa and have sanded hull out/faired useing West microlite putty. Repaired canvas damage with same and painted the hull green.
The gunwalls/planking/ribs/decks/keel/stem bands are all in A1 condition. Seats are not cained but planked - - WWII as reported in the forum a couple weeks back on a canoe about 600 #'s from mine.
This boat probably spent a good deal of its life screwed to a wall - - prabably in the lakes region of New Hampshire which may account for the its relatively good condition.
Hope you can help me out with original build and purchase info. And if anyone on the forum remembers a 16" green Old Town on a wall someplace, let me know!!

Old Town #146561 was a 16-foot CS (or common sense) grade Yankee model that was built in 1946 and shipped early in 1947 to Marlborough, Mass. It had open spruce gunwales, slat seats, and a keel. The original color was dark green.
