Hello--
The Old Town canoe that was assigned 12048 is a 16 foot CS (common sense or middle) grade Charles River model canoe completed October 1909 to February 1910. It has red Western cedar planking, spruce double gunwales, long ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seat frames and a keel. It was originally painted New Haven green and shipped to Rochester, NY, on February 12, 1910. A copy of the scan of this record is attached below-- click on it to get a larger size.
If you're unsure if this could be your canoe, please upload a picture. If you use the "search" function, you should be able to find images of other double gunwale canoes. It's a different treatment of the closed gunwale system. I'd like to see it in a long deck... not sure if anyone has posted a picture of a long deck double gunwale OT.
This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. I found an old discussion with pictures of the double gunwale OT-- and it's a long-deck (I should have remembered you had one, Benson!)-- anyway, I hope this helps you determine if that's the correct record:

Sounds like you do have a pennant holder and canopy fittings-- feel free to post pictures (we like pictures). Sounds like a nice canoe!

The message and pictures at http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?4651 show the canopy fittings on my canoe. It appears that these were popular in the Rochester area. They were probably added after it left the factory since there is no mention of them on the build record. It would be interesting to see picutures of yours.
