Outwale dry rot: repair or replace?

I've got a case of dry rot on some outwales. 80% of the wood is ok - the rot seems to be in a 2 foot section. Any advice as to whether I should try and 'fix' the dry rot (some epoxy based stuff), or scarf cut a new section, or simply replace the whole outwale.

in new. No need to replace the whole thing, just do a nice job with the joint. Nothin looks worse than a poor scarf joint IMHO. I wouldn't try to add anything to existing rot.

I'm thinking you're right. It'd be a whole lot easier than bending up a piece, and since the other outwale is ok then this would be a better match.
