My father acquired this canoe more than thirty years ago and it has been sitting in the barn ever since. I was hoping you could help me determin its age and possibly tell me some of the build sheet info. The s/n is 47693-17.
Thank much. J

Someone else with the records may have a copy that isn't smeared up as much... I can read the record, but you may have to take my word for it, that this is the record for Old Town #47693 (it was between 92 and 94).

The Old Town assigned this number is a CS ("common sense") grade Otca model, built between January 1917 and February 1918. Sounds like a nice canoe, with open spruce gunwales, ash decks, thwarts, and seat frames, half-ribs, outside stems and a keel. It was painted Khaki gray and shipped to Worchester MA on March 16, 1918.

A copy of the scan is attached below--- click on it to see a larger version. If this doesn't fit your boat, we can try again. Scans of approximately 210,000 records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details.
