Ot 13754 16

The Old Town canoe with serial number 13754 is a 16 foot long, CS (Common Sense) grade, XX model with western red cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, birch decks, spruce thwarts and seats and a keel. It was built between February and June, 1910. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It was shipped on June 21st, 1910 to Tonawanda, New York. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to join.

It is also possible that they could have another number or manufacturer if this description don't match the canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson,

I think this may be the correct canoe. The seller thought it was a 1910 HW. She had serial number 13764, but when we walked up, I immediately noticed long decks that are similar to an OTCA so I checked the serial number closely and found the 6 looked more like a 5. Only one stem is readable at the moment, but we will see if we can't clear up the other one this week.

Based on what I have read about the XX model, I think this canoe fits that better than the HW.

I appreciate the help.
