When was my 16 foot Old Town canoe made and how can I get a copy of the manufacturing record sheet? The serial Number is 147107 16.
I would like to restore it this spring and any help with this would be appreciated.
Thanks
Tom

Just ask here as you have. The Old Town canoe with serial number 147107 is a 16 foot long, CS (Common Sense) grade, Yankee model with spruce planking, open spruce gunwales, number ten canvas, ash decks ash thwarts, ash seats with cane, a keel, and a floor rack. It was built between December, 1946 and January, 1947. The original exterior paint color was fire red. It shipped on February 4th, 1947 to Atlanta, Georgia. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. You may find that the book at http://store.wcha.org/The-Wood-and-Canvas-Canoe.html to be very helpful in guiding you through the restoration process. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson
