Looking for information on this beautiful wood and canvas canoe. My aunt is selling it, and she would like to know more of its background. Many thanks.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 222682 is an 18 foot long, Guide's model with a keel, a floor rack, painter rings, outside stems, rib rails, and a bang plate over the full length of the keel. It was built between August and September, 1978. The original exterior paint color was green on the canvas. It was shipped on October 17th, 1978 to San Francisco, Calif. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoes. The information at http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?57 may help your aunt price and sell it. An advertisement at http://wcha.org/pp-classifieds/ is often the fastest way to find a good new home for a canoe like this. Good luck,

Benson

Thank you, Benson, for your speedy and knowledgeable reply. This is in deed the information we are looking for. The canoe is is beautiful condition, so the thread regarding pricing and selling will be most helpful. Again, many thanks for sharing your enthusiasm for heritage canoes.
