Could someone email me a copy of the archived build card for this canoe. It's somewhat different because of it's double ribbing and it's been set up for a lateen sail as well. Thanks.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 174240 is an 18 foot long Guide model that was built on the Otca form with half ribs, no keel, and narrow two and 3/4 inch planking. It was built between September, 1964 and March, 1965. The original exterior paint color was G. S. (Guide's Special) Green. It was shipped on April 2nd, 1965 to Old Town, Maine.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description don't match the canoe. The sail rig was probably added after it originally left the factory since it is not mentioned on the build record. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Many thanks! This canoe was bought by my Dad and was passed down to me several years before he died. It's fascinating to see the build history. Although I don't have the sail rigging any more, I do have the canoe. It's still as beautiful as when Dad bought it! It was one of his prized possessions and now it's one of mine. Being half Indian Dad knew how to handle a canoe and taught me well.

Thanks.
