Old Town Canoe Info?

Hi all,
I have just purchased an Old Town canoe and have started the stripping down process. The serial number plate was missing but the numbers in stem and stern are as follows 152462 17. Any information you could provide would be deeply appreciated.
Also, I tried to join but when I tried to get to the store to sign up it directed me to "URL not found." If you can provide the link to join it would be appreciated also.

Check that. Now that I registered, I was able to get to the online store and purchase a membership and t-shirt. Thanks. Looking forward to learning how to do this right.

Welcome to the WCHA! Sorry you had some trouble registering... we like getting feedback. The store has been revamped and we're trying to make it easier... less confusing. Well, there obviously are still some bugs.

Old Town 152462 is a 17 foot AA (top) grade Otca model canoe completed March-June 1949, with red Western cedar planking, open mahogany gunwales, and mahogany decks, thwarts, and seat frames. It has a keel and a floor rack and was originally painted dark green. It was shipped to Portland, Oregon, on June 14, 1949. A copy of the scan is attached below-- click on it to get a better-than-lifesized replica.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Kathy

Thank you Kathy for the quick and very informative response. Your description fits my new project exactly. That alone was worth the membership price. I am looking forward to what I can learn from all of you. Thanks Again!
