LOVES Wooden Canoes
Can I get some help getting a copy of this build record please? This canoe has longer than normal OTCA decks and I'm curious if that and anything else is specified on the record.
Thanks
Ken

The Old Town canoe with serial number 32598 is an 18 foot long, AA grade, Ideal model with red Western cedar planking, open mahogany gunwales, mahogany decks, mahogany trim, half ribs, a keel and outside stems. It was built between June and July, 1914. The original exterior paint color was auto grey. It shipped on July 7th, 1945 to Columbus, Ohio. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link behind the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join, renew, or contribute to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to join or renew.

The long decks may have been added later since there is no mention of them on the build record. You can see how long decks were usually noted in the example at http://forums.wcha.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=2137&d=1160420410 from the same period. How long are your decks and can you attach a picture?

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description don't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck with the restoration.

Benson
