The Old Town canoe with serial number 27498 is an 18 foot long, GS (Guide's Special or low) grade, IF (ideal Indian fishing or guide's) model with red western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, maple decks, maple thwarts, maple seats, and a keel. It was built in June, 1913. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It was shipped on June 30th, 1913 to Lake Katrine, New York. A scans of this build record can be found by following the link at the thumbnail image attached below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. The classifieds at http://classifieds.wcha.org/ are often the quickest way to find a good new home for a canoe like this. There will be several hundred members of the WCHA at Paul Smiths, New York for the next few days if you want to bring it over to sell it there.

Quick! Run this out to Assembly at Paul Smith's College, put it on the Green with a For Sale sign on it, and see what happens... Or maybe some creative work... put it in the auction, and split the proceeds with WCHA...? Heck, it's two Not-For-Profit Orgs...
