Looking to find information on this canoe, my grandfather brought it back with him from Canada in pieces
We rebuilt it as a father / son / grandfather project and were able to make it's maiden voyage with the 3 of us prior to his death.
Would love to know prior history canoe.jpgcanoe.jpg

You may need to confirm this serial number since the Old Town build record for serial number 186762 shows a 16 foot long fiberglass Ojibway model and your pictures show a wooden Otca model. Can you confirm the extreme overall length and provide some pictures of the inside stems from each end showing all of the serial numbers and the areas around them? The information at http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?791 may help if any of the digits are hard to read. Good luck,

Benson

The Old Town canoe with serial number 136762 is a 17 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, Otca model with open spruce gunwales, oak decks, oak thwarts, oak seats, and a keel. It was built between January and July, 1943. The original exterior paint color was bright green. It shipped on July 19th, 1943 to Thomas Neary in Naugatuck, Conn. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
