Old Town 117928

I have an old wooden canoe that was given to me by my father in law several years ago. No canvas left on it. A few broken ribs and some rot on the stems where it apparently sat on the ground for several years. I think it is an Old Town and has 117928 stamped on the stem along with a 15 which matches the length. Can you locate some information on it?

The Old Town canoe with serial number 117928 is 15 feet long, CS (common sense or standard) grade, a 50 Pound model with western red cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, oak decks, thwarts and seats, equipped with a keel. It was built in 1936, being finished on November 25, 1936. The exterior was originally painted dark green. It was shipped on April 1, 1937 to Minneapolis, Minn. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link behind the thumbnail image attached below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
