Not an Old Town ?

Enthusiastic about Wooden Canoes
I am looking at a canoe (15ft) whose serial number appears to be C 10550.
What's with the "C" ? Guy claims it's an Old Town. Any Ideas?

Thanks in advance

I believe "C" is a prefix sometimes used by Chestnut to denote "Commercial" - as in Prospector, Cruiser etc.

There are no know serial number records for Chestnut so none of us here can provide any more information about those canoes from a serial number alone. The Old Town canoe with number 10550 is 18 feet long, the Carleton is 17 feet long, and the Kennebec is 16 feet long so it probably isn't one of those. The information at http://dragonflycanoe.com/wood-canoe-identification-guide/chestnut-canoe-company/ may help you identify it from other characteristics. Good luck,

Benson
