Nj Canoe

The Old Town canoe with serial number 175431 is a 17 foot long Otca model with narrow two and 3/4 inch planking, mahogany decks, a keel, and the stern seat was moved two inches forward of the usual location. It was built between November, 1965 and January, 1966. The original exterior paint color was red and it was shipped on Marcy 14th, 1966 to Pompton Plains, New Jersey. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Hi Nj...

Thanks for visiting the WCHA forum. This SN matches up with an Old Town model OTCA, 17' long with mahogonay decks and a keel. Ity was originally shipped on March 14, 1966 to Pompton PLains, NJ., and the original color was red. Does this sound like your boat? A build record is attached.

Please consider joining the WCHA to help support this information exchange and all of the valuable information gained herein.

All the best!
