minimum plank span

Hello all
About to start replacing planks. What is the minimum span for a new section of plank. Can it go across just two ribs? Three?

General rule, no less than 3 ribs.

Thanks Paul for the quick response. So - just to be clear - half a plank edge on rib 1, across rib 2, half a plank edge on rib 3. Or half on 1, across rib 2, 3, 4, half on 5??
