Lakefield Canoe

Dave Wermuth

Who hid my paddle?
The all wood canoe is not in my wheelhouse, but I took on this poor thing anyway. I am familiar with w/c, but this is all new.
It is 16' 6" LOA. 34" at the planking, 36" to the gunnels. The "center" thwart is 10" aft center. It is about 14" deep. It has six silver Lakefield tags. It seems to be all steel fastened. It once was worked on. the parts that aren't broken are rotted. It had been glassed. The glass came off easily. I am just finishing up a new construction w/c and this Lakefield will go in the shop next. Andre, if you are reading, I really do understand why this canoe deserves a dignified cremation. Chris and every one else with common sense has passed on this one. I'm thinking that if I cannot restore it I may stabilize it for a display piece. I've done worse, but they were w/c. Here are some photos.
