Could I get a serial number search

Curious about Wooden Canoes
I got this boat from a guy who says his grandfather bought it after returning home from WW2. It's been hanging in a shed for the last 35 years or so. The serial number is 139998.

Thankyou,
Leo Boudreau

The Old Town canoe with serial number 139998 is a 17 foot long, AA (or top) grade, Otca model with red western cedar planking, open ash gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, a keel, a floor rack, and a mast seat. It was built between May and July, 1944. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It was shipped on July 22nd, 1944 to Holyoke, Mass. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions,

Benson

Thanks alot, that all makes sense with this boat. It's white now, so I guess it was redone at some point in the past. So cool to know this history and it makes perfect sense with war story as well.
