Chestnut Pal

I have an opportunity to purchase a 1974? Chestnut Pal. It needs a small amount of planking replaced, new canvas and inside refinished. I know very little about Chestnuts. Could anyone give me some insight on pros and cons on it.

Agree that these are pretty nice boats. I think you'll find quite a few members that keep one of these for solo use and also for short trips. They handle pretty well and are relatively light. Given a choice of a Huron or Faber I would take one of these first and without hesitation.

The later nuts do have some quality issues. The rib spacings tend to be all over the place and they may even be un-matched. The planking might not be the best quality and the outside rails are spliced from scraps.

None of this affects the useabilty of the boat. The outside rails are a quick replacement if you choose. If the price is right and you plan to use it, buy it.

Thanks lots for the information from everyone. I bought it today, will post pictures in the next couple of days.
