I found a carleton canoe in an old barn about 12 years ago. I took it out to camp and replaced two of the ribs and some of the cedar strips. the only thing i have left to do is recaine the seats and get canvas on it. serial number is 16 13218, i would like to know what year and where it was sent to.

thanks

The Carleton canoe with serial number 13218 is a 16 foot long, regular (or middle) grade, Carleton model with red western cedar planking, closed spruce gunwales, birch decks, birch thwarts, birch seats, and a keel. It was built between May, 1917 and February, 1919. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It was shipped on February 24th, 1919 to New York City. A scan showing this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description don't match the canoe. The other two scans attached below show the financial information for this canoe and the others in that order. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Let's see - about 42 canoes and about 200 paddles for less than $2,000. At those prices the Northeast Chapter should put in an order!

Thanks for the great info. There probably isn't anyway to figure out where it went after Abercrombie and fitch sold it, is there?
