LOVES Wooden Canoes
Hi Benson - It was a pleasure finally meeting you at the assembly. Also, amazing your knowledge of wooded canoes. A neighbor asked me if I knew anything about his canoe. All I know if that it is 15ft long and has a serial number on the stem -- c146298. Can you please provide some information on this canoe?
thanks
joe

Canoes with serial numbers that begin with the letter C are often Canadian and there are no known records available to identify them. The Old Town canoe with number 146298 is 20 feet long so that isn't a good match. You will need to provide pictures of the serial numbers from both ends and some of the canoe to identify it. Full dimensions may help too. Good luck,

Benson

My guess is that your neighbor has a Penn Yan Hunter model as shown below from the 1952 catalog and that the first two characters in the serial number are CL. This model was listed in their catalogs from 1933 to 1960. See http://www.wcha.org/forums/index.php?attachments/penn-yan-decal1-jpg.7002/ for a more complete decal. There are no known detailed Penn Yan serial number records available so not much more information may be available. Sorry,

Benson
