Chris Fisher, Colorado
Hello and thanks in advance. I was hoping to get the info for

148797 18 1947 Guide.

Thanks again

Chris

You should take another look at the numbers on your canoe. The OT canoe with serial number 148797 is a 17 foot Otca.

Check the number at both ends of the canoe and compare -- using a raking light often helps -- posting photos of the numbers and the canoe may help us get the right build record.

Sorry guys - they are now saying the final digit is a 7 not 8 - so the SN should be

148798 18 - it's supposed to be an 18' guide model manufactured in 47.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 148798 is an 18 foot long, CS (common sense or standard) grade Guide model with Maine white cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, ash seats, decks and thwarts, and equipped with a keel. It was built between May and July 1947. The original exterior paint color was guide special gray . It was shipped to Syracuse, New York on March 16, 1948. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link behind the thumbnail image attached below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
