Does anyone have a picture of one. I have heard Old Town sold them at one time with big brass wingnuts. Thanks, Mike.

Thanks Benson but I am looking for a all wood mount with brass hardware. Did old town ever sell one? Has someone made one? Thanks.Mike.....

The original Old Town ones always used a flat metal bar across the gunwales with brass hardware as far as I know. There are several all wood ones on eBay from other makers like the ones at http://www.ebay.com/itm/290698525718 and http://www.ebay.com/itm/180683842011 but these don't appear to have brass hardware. These both look like a simple design that you could probably make yourself but I never have.

Here is what I'm going to build when ready... You can use brass, bronze or wood blocks to get whatever look you want...

I built one in 1979 for a couple canoes up at my folks cabin. It was 1.25" thick ash with a 1.5" thick, slightly angled motor block. I bought the big bronze bolts and tail nuts from Old Town. The motor block was held to the crossbar with stainless carriage bolts and it was finished with numerous coats of Deks Olje #1. I installed a small curved thwart behind the stern seat with two bolt holes in it on one boat. The other had a second, loose curved wooden bar that fit under the gunwales, sandwiching them to hold the mount in place. Unfortunately, somebody left it out under the porch for a few years, so it's rather weathered, but it's still sound and waiting to be cleaned-up and refinished.

Thanks to all. I think a cross between the Willits Bros. and the one Todd made is what I am looking for... Cheers Mike.......
