What determines what model a OT canoe is?

This is after reading the response about a "Guide" being built over a "OTCA" form

Why is this called a Guide rather than a OTCA, ie; what makes this a Guide instead of being an OTCA?

For comparison, I once had a HW that had "low" ends, so it looked a lot like a Guide, but it wasn't.

Confused??

"an 18 foot long guide model built on the Otca form"

It is confusing and somewhat arbitrary. This is a Guide model primarily because that is what was written on the model section of the build record. It could also reasonably be called an Otca because it was built on the Otca form. Any Old Town canoe with low ends is considered the 'guide' style. The model names were fairly fluid and changed over time. See http://www.wcha.org/forums/index.php?threads/11665/ for more details on this topic.
