Curious about Wooden Canoes
Hi all,

This summer my big trip was to Wabakimi Provincial Park. There were a few ways to enter the park (through Caribou Lake and paddle a long way in, train drop off, fly-in and a few others). I'd never been on a pontoon plane but had always wanted to try it out so chose that.

We drove up to Armstrong and flew in with Mattice Lake Outfitters. Don and Annette Elliot and their crew were great to deal with and they got us in and out of the park safely.

The park itself is of course huge. Its the second largest Provincial park in Ontario (after Polar Bear). We spent a week paddling and only saw one other person on Brennan Lake, as we paddled by their camp.

Likely the most difficult part of the trip was the weather. I had been told that the weather changes frequently and it did. It seemed like it was either raining or it was sunny and in between it would be either raining or sunny.

It was a pretty good trip all up and I'd love to get back and spend more time there.
