Species of spruce for gunwales

Thanks again. I think I've settled on sitka. I do want to be true to the build slip as much as possible, so sitka seems to be the best choice, or should I say the only choice.I HAVE been running into dead ends hunting for eastern white. Michael

How about sasafras

I would like to know that I have chosen the best wood type for inner rails. What is the best choice I have heard that sasafras is fairly durable.

I'm really very new at this. Don't know anything about sassafrass. In some of my reading I have been told that ash and cherry are good, but I'm certainly no authority at this point. Hopefully someone else will chime in here.

I've been using white ash lately. Glad I got some before the Emerald Ash Borers invade the northwoods. Ash has beautiful grain, is available in long lengths, inexpensive comparatively, and steam bends well.
Don't forget to varnish the insides of the gunwales.

Thanks . That kinda puts a lid on it for me. Going to use sitka for the OT XX, but may take some liberties with the OTCA
