We received news today that because of the ongoing pandemic, Paul Smiths College (the site of the planned 2021 WCHA Assembly) will not be hosting any large events during the summer of 2021. This is not unexpected but it is an unfortunate development as it means that our planned in-person Assembly will not occur this year. However, we are moving forward with the planning of an exciting and informative virtual WCHA Assembly which will be available to anyone regardless of location or ability to travel to the Adirondacks in New York. This format will also allow programming that would otherwise be unavailable at our regular Assembly.

Look forward to seeing details of the virtual Assembly here and on our other forums as plans are finalized.

Please bear with us as we, like many other people and organizations, must modify our plans by necessity and in order to protect our members and the WCHA as a whole. Also, please note that the WCHA will suffer no financial hardship because of this change - financial outlays made to support Assembly 2021 will be applied without penalty to Assembly 2022.

Stay strong, stay healthy, and happy canoeing.

    Michael S. Grace
    President, Wooden Canoe Heritage Association

A Survivor: This Old Town canoe is probably an H.W. model that dates from around 1905 but the build records don't go back far enough to confirm that. It does have the outline of an Old Town decal from that period on the bow deck. The three images of the decal show the before, after, and what it probably looked like originally. Many thanks to Rollin and everyone else at the Northwoods Canoe Company for keeping this canoe going. #wcha #wchaorg #canoe #woodencanoeheritageassociation #woodencanoe #oldtowncanoe #northwoodscanoe

Unexpected snow: It looks like winter, but this photograph was taken at the end of July on Maligne Lake in Jasper National Park. Six inches of sudden snow led to this unexpected peak season solitude. A WELL DESERVED REST: Dave Kavner’s “Apple Pie” is taking a break on Lower St. Regis Lake at the WCHA Assembly at Paul Smith’s College in New York’s Adirondack Park. “Apple Pie” is a replica of a lapstrake Rushton “Florida” model row and sail boat. She was built in 2005 by Dave and friends and had her maiden voyage at the 2006 WCHA Assembly at Keuka Lake, New York. #wcha #wchaorg #canoe #woodencanoeheritageassociation #woodencanoe #paulsmiths #adirondacks #wchaassembly #lowerstregislake #rushtoncanoe

A Rushton Navahoe in scale: This a 1:8 scale model of a Rushton Navahoe made by Sam Browning. He says "I built it so I had something to do inside the warm house rather than out in the workshop. I used all the right techniques and most correct materials for a cedar canvas boat except using glue instead of nails and tacks."
