Curious about Wooden Canoes
Hello ladies and gentlemen Kevin here again and now I'm building my Rudder control but I'm not doing it like all those fancy Sailors do it I'm building an actual ships wheel I'm going to mount it to my furthers back crossmember I replaced my aluminum crossmember with Rift Red Oak the straightest grain I could find I built a proof-of-concept for our first sailing Adventure out of Pine and now I'm making the real thing out of Oak and other solid Hardwoods. I'm also salvaging parts from this canoe hoist system that I got with my boat for pulleys in my linkage

Bass roping set now all I need to do is add washer spacers and what not tighten everything up and she's good to go

Working on the wheel now and I've got a pretty good Circle going using Red Oak again on this part, I use the base of an old bass fishing seat as my template.

I made the center spoke of the wheel a pin so that I can remove the wheel for Easy Transport

All varnished and reinstalled couple of minor adjustments and whatnot and she'll be ready for use

I've got everything working and one coat of Spar Varnish on all the wood she's looking pretty nice so far
