I acquired an Old Town canoe (yellow fiberglass) and am looking for information about the model and build of the boat.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Serial # XTC92817M73J
Hull stamp 192817

Thanks,
Mike

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town canoe with the hull identification number XTC92817M73J and serial number 192817 is a 16 foot long fiberglass Carleton model with a keel that weighed 79 pounds. It was built in January, 1973. The original exterior gelcoat color was yellow. It shipped on May 25th, 1973 to Stowe, Vermont. The back side of this record shows that there were some specks in the gelcoat. Scans showing both sides of this build record can be found below.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. See http://www.wcha.org/forums/index.php?threads/16795/ for a similar canoe and the pages from the 1973 catalog that describe it. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions,

Benson

Thank you for the quick response.
The boat is still in very good shape and the yellow gelcoat only has a few minor surface scratches.
Much appreciated.
