April 17 Milwaukee River Cleanup. Part of the Milwaukee Riverkeeper sponsored 15th Annual Spring River Cleanup. More than 3,000 people will participate in this event, picking up trash from 43 locations on waterways in the Milwaukee area. For a nominal registration fee, participants receive a T-shirt, trash bags and gloves and free food, drink and music at the River Bash in the afternoon. The location and start time for the section of river we will paddle/clean is to be determined. Contact: Howard Caplan,414-881-2225, hcap@nurseinc.net. May 1 Illinois River at Starved Rock State Park, Oglesby, Ill. Meet at the Lone Point Shelter at 10 a.m. The paddling area is off the main channel of the river. A lunch cookout is planned at 1p.m. Brats and chips will be provided. Please bring your own beverages and something to pass. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted in the park. Depending on the weather and participants’ desires, we may paddle more after lunch. For those interested in camping, coordinator Bill Wallock will be at site 63 Friday and Saturday. To make site reservations, call 815-667-4726. There is a $5 reservation fee and $25 per night camping fee. The park is about 50 miles southwest of Aurora/Naperville. May 29-30 Minong Flowage, Washburn County, Northwest Wis. Paddle on the Minong flowage and attend the Grand Opening of the Wisconsin Canoe Heritage Museum in Spooner. Camp and paddle at the Totogatic Campground about 25 miles northwest of Spooner. This is scheduled as a two-day event, but feel free to come earlier and stay later. It’s a good idea to come early because the campground does not accept reservations and it does fill on memorial Day weekend. Camping is $15 per day. From Minong, take County Hwy I west about 6 miles. Watch for the sign.

June 26 Manitowoc River, East Central Wis. We will paddle several miles of the river to its mouth on Lake Michigan and attend the festivities of the weekend River Rendezvous celebration. Put in at Manitou Park at 9 a.m. From Hwys 10-42 on Manitowoc’s west side, take County Hwy R south to Michigan Ave. Turn east onto Michigan Avenue. Watch for the sign. Take out is at the

July 31 Norm’s Hideaway, Lake Koshkonong, South Central Wis. Paddle and socialize at Norms, W8639 Kuehn Road, between Ft. Atkinson and Edgerton. 1 p.m. start. Wood/canvas, cedar strip and birch bark canoes, vintage duck boats and other small wooden craft have been seen at this annual event. Who knows what will show up this year. From Interstate 39-90 at Albion, take Hwy 106 east. Turn right onto Loga Road. Turn right ( south) onto Carcajou Road. Kuehn Road is on the left. Contact Dennis Ehle, 608-873-6313.

Rock River Canoe Company, Fort Atkinson. August 1 Sandhill Station State Campground, Lake Mills. For those who want to stay late following the get together at Norm’s, camp at Sandhill Station, tent sites only, with good lake and river paddling nearby on Sunday. Non campers, and campers, too, if you like, can meet for brunch at the Sandbar restaurant on the north end of Rock Lake in Lake Mills at 9 a.m. We will decide where to paddle on Sunday depending on water levels and participants’ interests. Aug 14 Fox River Heritage Paddle 2010, Northeastern Wis. Several Wisconsin canoeing organizations have organized this paddle, the last of nine covering the 189 mile length of the Fox River from Portage to Green Bay, part of the primary waterway route that linked the Great Lakes to the Missisisippi River during the fur trade era. We’re going along for the ride/padde. The 8-mile paddle begins at Bomier Park in DePere, and ends at the City Marina near the mouth of the Fox at Green Bay, where the Baylake Bank Tall Ship Festival will be in progress. Sept. 24-26 Jag Lake, Boulder Junction, North Central Wis. This is our third annual Fall color get together. Camp, paddle, fish, bike and socialize at Jag Lake Campground. Go 13 miles north of Woodruff on Hwy 51. Turn right onto County Hwy H. Go 1.4 miles and turn right on North Creek Road. One mile to the campground on the left.
