Remembering Jim Altemus

Michael Grace

Lifetime Member
Sadly, we learned that WCHA member Jim Altemus passed away unexpectedly yesterday. Jim was a long-time member of the WCHA (member number 5301). He was a dedicated member of the wooden canoe community, serving the WCHA in a variety of ways including as a member of the Board of Directors, supporting the education and grants mission of the WCHA, and volunteering at the WCHA's annual Assembly. Among other things, Jim was a lecturer at the Finger Lakes Boat Museum where he also worked on restoration of the tour boat Pat II, a 39' launch built in 1924. Jim was a War of 1812 re-enactor, and also volunteered with the Genesee Country Village and Museum. In his own shop, Jim was a woodworker and gunsmith.

Our condolences go out to Jim's family and friends. He will certainly be missed.
