Curious about Wooden Canoes
I’m curious about the canoe in this Facebook ad. The ad says it’s an Old Town but I’ve never seen an OT like this before. This is the second canoe of this type I’ve seen in the last month after never having seen one before . The 2 canoes are 600 miles apart too. Any ideas ?
Disclaimer : I have no connection to this canoe for sale.

It is a kit boat offered by (most likely) Trailcraft for a number of years. It is essentially a skin-on-frame canoe. Similar canoes were published as plans in Popular Mechanics magazine and the like.

Yes, probably a Trailcraft kit boat:

Lots of folks seem to think that Old Town is the only company that built wood/canvas canoes; when reading ads, always be skeptical. And in my opinion, $600 is much too much for a Trailcraft, even one in good shape.

Thanks for the info.

Do you have an approximate dimension of the stringers ? They look like maybe 1/2” x 1” .
